Bāraka llāhu laka fī l-mawhūbi laka, wa shakarta l-wāhiba, wa balagha ashuddahu, wa ruziqta birrah

May Allah bless the child granted to you, enable you to thank the Giver, allow the child to reach maturity, and bless you with the child’s dutifulness.

The parent replies:

Bāraka llāhu laka wa bāraka ʿalayka, wa jazāka llāhu khayran, wa razaqaka llāhu mithlahu, wa ajzala thawābak

May Allah bless you and shower His blessings upon you, reward you with goodness, grant you a similar blessing, and make your reward abundant.

Afṭara ʿindakumu aṣ-ṣāʾimūna, wa akala ṭaʿāmakumu l-ʾabrāru, wa ṣallat ʿalaykumu l-malāʾikah

May the fasting break their fast in your home, and may the dutiful and pious eat your food, and may the angles send prayers upon you.

When you sneeze, say:

Al-ḥamdu li-llāh

All praise is for Allah.

A companion should reply:

Yarḥamuka llāh

May Allah have mercy on you.

The sneezer should then reply:

Yahdīkumu llāhu wa yuṣliḥu bālakum

May Allah guide you and set your affairs right.

Ibn ʿUmar said: It would be counted that the Messenger of Allah would say one hundred times at any one sitting before getting up:

Repeat 100x

Rabbi ighfir lī, watub ʿalayya, innaka anta at-tawwābu l-ghafūr

O my Lord, forgive me and turn towards me to accept my repentance. Verily You are The Oft-Returning. The Oft-Forgiving.

Subḥānaka llāhumma wa bi-ḥamdika, ashhadu an lā ilāha illā anta, astaghfiruka wa atūbu ilayk

How perfect You are O Allah, and I praise You. I bear witness that None has the right to be worshipped except You. I seek Your forgiveness and turn to You in repentance.

Aaishah reported that the Messenger of Allah was given a sheep and he ordered for it’s distribution. When the servant would come back from distributing it, ʿAishah would ask: ‘What did they say?’, he replied: They would supplicate: May Allah bless you all. ʿAishah would then say:

Wa fīka bāraka llāh

and may Allah bless them.

The Messenger of Allah said:

‘You shall not enter paradise until you believe, and you shall not believe until you love one another. Shall I not inform you of something, if you were to act upon it, you will indeed achieve mutual love for one another? Spread the greeting amongst yourselves.

Aammar said: ‘Three characteristics, whoever combines them, has completed his faith: to be just, to spread greetings to all people and to spend charitably out of the little you have.

Aabdullah Ibn Aamr reported that a man asked the Prophet: ‘Which Islam is the best?’. He replied:

Feed the poor, and greet those whom you know as well as those whom you do not.

The Prophet PBUH said:

Allāhumma fa ayyumā muʾminin sababtuhu fa ijʿal dhālika lahu qurbatan ilayka yawma l-qiyāmah

O Allah, to any believer whom I have insulted, let that be cause to draw him near to You on the Day of Resurrection.

He said: If anyone of you is compelled to praise his companion, then he should say:

Aḥsibu fulānan wa-llāhu ḥasībuhu, walā uzakkī ʿalā llāhi aḥadā

I consider so-and-so [to be…], and Allah is his Reckoner. I do not declare anyone pure before Allah.

If he knows those qualities of him, he may add: I consider him to be such-and-such.

O Allah, do not call me to account for what they say and forgive me for what they have no knowledge of [and make me better than they imagine].

The Prophet PBUH said:

When evening descends, bring your children indoors for the devils scatter out at this hour. Then after the passing of an hour i.e. the first hour of the night, you may let them the children go. Close your doors while mentioning the Name of Allah, for the devil may not open a closed door. Fasten your waterskins mentioning the Name of Allah. Cover your eating vessels mentioning the Name of Allah even if you just put something over it, and extinguish your lamps.
